Economy

The Wirral Waters project recognises the need to create opportunities for people to work and therefore remain in the local area. We take a place-led but jobs driven attitude towards the regeneration of Wirral Waters. In partnership with the Combined Authority and Wirral Council, we need to grow and diversify the regional economy to drive demand for space.

The Heart Of The Action

The Wirral is famous for its enterprising spirit, currently boasting the highest rate of startup companies and SME growth within the UK. A number of large companies are already on the Wirral, including Unilever which has carried out research here for over 100 years and Cammell Laird, which has been in Birkenhead since it was simply Laird Son & Co back in the 1800s.

Key growth sectors for the future will be in marine and maritime, renewable energy and the automotive sectors.  The SME culture of the Wirral underpins growth in the area as well as complementing the educational and cultural sectors.
