A brand-new Sainsbury’s Local store is coming to the Northbank neighbourhood at Wirral Waters, providing a high-quality, walkable amenity for the rapidly growing residential and business community.
Due to start on site in 2026, the purpose-built 4,300 sq ft convenience store will be located on the corner of Dock Road and Duke Street, on the doorstep of the award-winning £130m Millers Quay residential development. From here it will serve residents at Millers Quay, East Float Quay and Redbridge Quay, as well as those working across the wider Wirral Waters regeneration area.
The new Sainsbury’s Local will offer a carefully curated range of Sainsbury’s great value, high-quality food and convenience products – everything from fresh fruit and veg, meat and fish to meal solutions and bread and pastries baked daily in-store. Open daily between 7am and 11pm, the store will give local people more choice and flexibility, just a short walk from home or work.
Customers will also benefit from:
As the local population continues to grow – with 500 new homes at Millers Quay now complete and further waterside homes coming forward at Redbridge Quay – the Sainsbury’s Local will play an important role in supporting day-to-day living for thousands of residents. It will also create new employment opportunities for local people as part of the wider regeneration story at Wirral Waters.
In line with Wirral Waters’ strong environmental credentials, sustainability is at the heart of the new store’s design and operation. The building will be powered by 100% renewable electricity and will feature 100% LED lighting throughout, helping to reduce carbon emissions and running costs.
As an extension of the Millers Quay site, construction of the store will also offer hands-on learning and work experience opportunities for students from the neighbouring Wirral Met College Construction Campus, continuing the successful partnership that has underpinned many projects across Wirral Waters.
