Delivered during the Wirral Met College’s annual Industry Week (8th – 12th February 2021), the session focused on Hythe – a state of the art, sustainable business hub, currently onsite at Wirral Waters and next door to Wirral Met’s Construction Campus.

The session provided an overview of the important phases of the construction lifecycle from inception to completion, identifying different roles within the companies and how they form part of the bigger team of completing a large-scale development project. Students from plumbing, painting and decorating, electrical and joinery took part in the online presentation.

The session was an important part of ongoing collaboration between Peel L&P, Wirral Met and contractors to provide young people with experiences and insights that will give them the best possible start in the construction industry. Prior to COVID-19, students took part in various site visits to see ongoing projects first-hand.

Sue Higginson, Principal and CEO of Wirral Met College, said: “We value our partnerships with employers and have worked with Peel L&P at every stage of their regeneration plans to ensure our curriculum supports the existing and future jobs that will turn these plans into reality. Our iconic Wirral Waters campus was the first new building in this regeneration area, creating world-class facilities for the construction and business services industries. I’d like to thank the specialists who gave their time in our masterclasses since they were also the architects and specialists that helped to build the Wirral Waters campus.”

Richard Mawdsley, Director of Development at Peel L&P’s Wirral Waters, added: “We’re very pleased to support Wirral Met College mark Industry Week 2021 in this way. We know how important it is to provide construction students with valuable real world insights in to the industry and we continue to work with our contractors and partners to create opportunities for learning, training, and in the longer term apprenticeships and jobs. We remain committed to ensuring local young people benefit from the regeneration of Wirral Waters.”

Wirral Met College’s Industry Week 2021 welcomed over 60 employers from all walks of industry, including Accountancy, Construction, Hair & Makeup, Computing, Science, Animal Management, Public Services, Travel & Tourism, Engineering and the Arts, providing work placement insights during lockdown.
