Freeport

Wirral Waters forms part of the LCR Freeport, a designation provided by Central Government to stimulate jobs and growth. Freeports are key economic growth tools for this administration, and the Freeport seeks to utilise the River Mersey and its water assets to stimulate growth.

A Zone For Pioneering Business

Wirral Waters was one of the first of four Enterprise Zones to be announced in the UK. This has now been subsumed into the LCR Freeport.

Businesses locating into the Freeport will have access to a suite of benefits from the scheme thanks to a number of tools, including simplified and improved planning regimes, Enhanced Capital Allowances and up to five years of business rate discounts.

Wirral Waters is working with various Government departments including DBT, MHCLG and Homes England and has had approval from several key politicians and Ministers.  Wirral Waters needs to be a priority project for Wirral Council, the Liverpool Combined Authority and Central Government in order to maximise its potential.

With true collaborative working, the potential is to create thousands of permanent jobs in The Wirral.
