Community Impact

At Wirral Waters, regeneration is about more than new buildings – it is about creating lasting opportunities for local people, supporting education and skills and ensuring that significant investment delivers genuine social value. Across our developments the impact is already being felt by students, families, local businesses, and the wider Liverpool City Region.

Hythe: Local Growth and Skills in Action

The Hythe office development at Wirral Waters has similarly delivered meaningful social and economic value for the region.

  • Over £1.5m of construction spend was invested in the Liverpool City Region supply chain.
  • Nearly a third of the 422 contractors working on Hythe were based locally – a direct outcome of Peel Waters and GMI Construction’s targeted Meet the Builder events.

Wirral Met College students benefitted from site visits, learning opportunities and practical work experience. Many students have since progressed into full-time roles in the construction sector, reinforcing Wirral Waters’ role as a catalyst for future careers.

Building Skills and Opportunity: Millers Quay

Millers Quay has become a flagship example of how a major residential development can drive real community benefit. Working in close partnership with GRAHAM, Wirral Met College, Liverpool John Moores University, and dozens of local contractors, the project acted as a live classroom for the next generation of construction professionals.

  • Over 400 Wirral Met College students gained hands-on learning experiences including site tours, technical seminars, Q&A sessions and structured work placements.
  • More than 70 LJMU construction and project management students visited the development as part of their Industry Advisory Panel programme.
  • Pupils from several Wirral SEN schools enjoyed guided tours, giving younger learners a unique insight into how places are built.
  • Through the CRE-8 pre-employment programme, 15 local people secured jobs across the site, with 5 progressing into full-time employment with subcontractors. This hands-on support reflects the project’s commitment to building a strong, skilled, locally rooted workforce.

Economic Benefit and Local Investment

Millers Quay delivered substantial investment into the local economy, creating a ripple effect of positive change:

  • Over £1m per month invested in local labour during construction.
  • Well over 1,000 people worked on the project, with almost 75% living within 30 miles of the site.
  • £44m spent with local supply chain partners, helping to strengthen Wirral’s business ecosystem.
  • £31m in Social Economic Return on Investment (SROI) generated for the region.

These achievements reflect Peel Waters’ commitment to ensuring regeneration is inclusive, economically impactful, and rooted in local opportunity.

Supporting Local Schools and Community Organisations

Beyond education and employment, the Millers Quay team, led by GRAHAM, actively supported community groups and charities across Wirral:

  • Over £10,000 donated to Wirral Foodbank.
  • Playground improvements delivered at St Joseph’s Primary School, including the removal and replacement of worn seating.
  • A new outdoor learning space – complete with seating, a mud kitchen, and a bug hotel – created at Egremont Primary School.
  • Financial support provided to local initiatives such as the Tranmere Rovers Super White Christmas Appeal and the Come Together Christmas Appeal, funding energy cards, food vouchers, toys and clothing for families in need.

Across all developments, Wirral Waters is delivering a long-term commitment to social value, skills, local growth and community wellbeing.
